Hello Art Lovers !
Our society was created over 20 years ago by a group of friends who thought it would be fun to get together and paint. Some of the original members have since gone, and new ones have joined the group, but our "mission" is still the same: get creative and learn while having a good time!
Myrna Johns, a professional local artist, has been our instructor and mentor since the beginning. She donates her time and expertise to help each member find their artistic voice and improve their techniques and skills. Her help and advice have been, and continue to be, invaluable.
Most of our time together is spent working on our individual paintings. However, Myrna sometimes gives informal demonstrations on different subjects: painting techniques, brush and knife work, colour theory, brush strokes, working with other mediums, etc.
Once a year, in the fall, we pack up our supplies and lunch, and spend a day in the country, where we let nature inspire us. During that full day en plein air, some of our members often create amazing alla prima paintings.
All members also take part in critiquing each other's work, which is a great way to learn and improve in a positive and constructive environment. Every painting entered in our spring and fall art shows has been critiqued, and approved, to make sure that we offer works of good quality to the public.
